These drained so fast after my son splashed through the creek all afternoon, and no sand got trapped inside thanks to the closed upper. He never once complained about them rubbing.
My kid wore these all day at the lake and the drainage holes actually work—water pours right out and they're dry by the time we get to the car. The closed upper kept the gravel out too, which was my main worry.
