My son stomps straight through puddles on the walk to school and his socks stay bone dry, so the waterproofing really holds up. The standard laces let me cinch them snug enough that he isn't slipping around in them either.
We've had these for about six weeks now and they're holding up way better than I expected for a kids shoe. The waterproofing actually works—my son came home with dry socks after splashing through puddles at the bus stop. The standard laces take a bit of extra time in the morning, but they stay tied.
My kid stomped straight through a muddy puddle on the way to school and his socks stayed completely dry, which says it all really. The standard laces actually stay tied too, so I'm not retying them every five minutes. Light enough that he forgets he's wearing them.
