The water-repellent finish actually held up through a wet, slushy hike and the hood fits over a helmet without feeling bulky. It's the warmest shell I own without being sweaty on the climb up.
Wore this over a fleece on a windy ridge last weekend and the wind resistance was genuinely noticeable — the softshell fabric blocks gusts without that clammy feeling. The water-repellent finish shrugged off a short sleet shower too. Sized up for layering and it's spot on.
