Packed this for a chilly morning hike and ended up wearing it the whole way — as a standalone it blocked the wind without turning into a sauna. The hood actually stays put when I pull it up, which is more than I can say for my last one.
Wore this as a midlayer under my shell on a windy ridge hike and never once felt a chill come through. The hood actually stays put when I'm moving instead of flapping around, which I didn't expect from something this light.
It works fine as a midlayer under a shell but the hood is bulky enough that it bunches up around the collar when layered. Kept me warm on a brisk walk, though I expected a bit more from it for the price.
