Wore these on a muddy, rocky ridge hike last weekend and the GORE-TEX kept my feet completely dry through a stream crossing. The mid cut locks in my heel without rubbing, even after 12 miles.
The mid-height cut gives decent ankle support on rocky sections, but the boots felt stiff for the first few miles and I ended up with a hot spot on my heel. They've broken in since, though I wish the lacing was easier to adjust with gloves on.
The GORE-TEX lining really does keep water out—I stomped through a muddy creek bed and my socks stayed dry. But the ankle collar rubbed a blister on my right heel by mile four, so I'm still breaking them in.
