The thumbholes are a hit with my son, he keeps them pulled over his hands on chilly morning walks to school. Fleece is soft but not too bulky, so it layers fine under his rain shell.
Bought this for my daughter's fall camping trip and she basically hasn't taken it off since. The thumbholes are her favorite part, and it layers easily under her rain shell without feeling bulky.
The fleece is soft and my kid likes the thumbholes, but it runs a bit thin for real cold mornings. Fine as a layer under a shell, just don't expect it to work alone in winter.
