The hands-free carry really shines on a long day out, and the shoulder straps stayed comfortable even when it was loaded down. Only knock is that it gets a bit heavy once you fill it, but for a cooler backpack that's kind of the trade-off.
Took this on a full-day hike and the hands-free carry really paid off — the soft cooler kept everything cold from morning till we got back to the car. Only gripe is that once it's loaded up it gets heavy on the shoulders, but that's kind of expected with a cooler this size.
The backpack straps make it way easier to haul drinks down to the beach than lugging a cooler by the handle. That said, it's heavy once you load it up with ice and cans, and my back felt it after a mile. Does the job, but I wouldn't want to carry it far.
