The X Ultra 5 Mid GORE-TEX is a dependable, confidence-boosting hiking ally. Lightweight yet stable, it's as good at charging up hills as it is at tackling descents. Designed to keep you safe and agile on the trail, with an ultra-durable Matryx upper and a long-lasting contaGRIP outsole for grip and traction.
I was worried a mid boot would feel clunky, but these are surprisingly light on the uphill sections. The GORE-TEX lining kept my feet dry through wet grass and a shallow creek crossing.
Wore these on a muddy 8-mile loop and the GORE-TEX kept my feet bone dry through every puddle. The grip on the descent was the real surprise, I never once felt my heel slip.
The boot is genuinely light and the GORE-TEX kept my feet dry on a wet trail, so no complaints there. But the ankle collar rubbed against my heel for the first few hikes before it loosened up, and for the price I expected it to feel comfortable out of the box.
