The cotton is surprisingly soft after a few washes, no pilling at all. My son hates tags and scratchy seams, but he put this on and forgot about it, and the pull-on shorts make bathroom trips easy for him.

My kid wore this set almost every day on our beach trip — the cotton is soft and breathable, and the graphic top held up fine through several washes. Only gripe is the shorts run a bit big in the waist, so I'd size down if your kid is between sizes.
