Bought this for my son's fall camping trip and the fleece is genuinely warm without being bulky, so he can layer it under his rain shell. The snap placket is easy for him to work himself, which is a small win on busy mornings.

My daughter has basically lived in this since it arrived — the double-sided fleece is really warm without being bulky, so it works as a mid-layer skiing or just on its own at the park. Washed it twice already and it hasn't pilled at all.

The fleece is genuinely soft and warm, and my daughter loves the snap pocket for stashing tiny treasures. Only gripe is the sizing runs a bit small, so I'd size up if your kid is between sizes.
